Well...
It's hard to believe that it's been so long since I've written here... life just really gets in the way of things like this from time to time. And, I think, to be honest, that twitter had an effect on my posting here. I'm sure that most people that chat with me on MSN know that I almost always operate on a say it as it comes up mindset, and as an output That's kind of what twitter is like for me. But I'm back here, I don't know for how long, and I don't even really know why.
It's weird... it's like quitting smoking in reverse. I know writing on here is good (I find writing out my thoughts can be relaxing) but it's hard to sit down and find the time to pop out new stuff, or have anything interesting to say.
I think another thing that has sort of sucked the fun out of this whole blogging thing was the posting of pictures. I'm SURE there was a better way that what I am currently doing (posting pics to photobucket and then dumping the links on here), and if there's anyone reading this I'd take some recommendations!
I know that not everyone has facebook, so seeing these updates certainly must have been fun for them. It has always been fun for me to recap what I've been up to, and talk about what was interesting in my day. I'm sure I've forgotten twice as much as I remember from the last few years, and it was always nice to take a look back and see what the hell I was up to in these days gone past. Maybe that's what I'll do now... at least until I forget and let this blog run into the ground again.
I'm trying to dust this thing off. I need to write. I need to use more than just simple bursts of thought to express myself. Limiting yourself to 140 characters is like an exercise in being concise... but when you think about it, being concise is stripping down what you're saying to the base facts. U cld type in shrt frm of wrds but that shit is just too annoying. Haha, this almost sounds anti-twitter... I don't think that it is though.
I'm still working at EB, which is great. Most of the time... when I'm not working with my assistant manager. He is a shoe... one that has stepped in poop. Bear poop. SMELLY bear poop. Shit even. I can say shit on here. SHIT shit SHITE SHITTER SHITTTTTTTTTTTTTTT <-- (consonant extensions!)
One of the things that I enjoy the MOST about working at the store has nothing really to do with the work or the people or the store itself. One of the things that I enjoy the most is the drives to and from work. Usually, on a good day, they can clock in at about half an hour. It's not THAT long of a drive, and what I love so much about it is that I get to listen to my iPod and take in some fantastic music. I have made so many personal discoveries about what I really do enjoy in terms of sound and song writing in these drives, whether I'm listening to an album or tuning into a new shuffle. I was listening to some awesome hip hop the other day by Lupe Fiasco. That guy rules... there's just something about the way he raps that makes me want to listen more and more. One song of his, "Paris, Tokyo" is one of my favorite hip hop songs of recent years. I have to find some of his vinyl. It really only makes sense when you think about it... at least for me. HA! I'm a bit of an addict when it comes to picking up the stuff.
Speaking of which, I just had some new records from polyvinyl delivered this week. I got the Japandriods album "Post-Nothing" and Of Montreal's "Coquelicot Asleep In The Poppies" which I have yet to spin up. I've heard the Japandroids album a few times, and it made me happy to listen to it on record, but I'm excited to give this Of Montreal record a spin. It's supposed to be one of their best albums, but I'll reserve judgment for that; I still think "Satanic Panic in the Attic" rocks it pretty hard.
Omar, Christian, and I have decided that we need to play a show. Of course that means that we had to book one, which we did. Without a singer... or a defined set list... or a real direction. I think we needed to though. I always find that lighting a fire under my ass actually gets me working on something, and there really is nothing like a performance date to get you nervous and thinking. I've posted a few "female singer" wanted ads hoping to catch someone who isn't already working on a project to have them come fill out our sound. I don't know how it's going to work though. I guess we'll see when I send them the stuff we record this week.
I'm starting to get all droopy eyed from just sitting here and typing, so I think that I'm going to give this up for the night. I suspect that I'll be writing in here tomorrow, and maybe bringing along a few photos of a Settlers of Catan game that is in the works for tomorrow. Let's hope it actually happens.
GFY,
Tony I
